The Broadcast Pioneers of Philadelphia

Broadcast Pioneers Board Member Michael Nise (producer of Dancin' On Air) worked very hard to make the program a success. There's many historic moments that took place on that Channel 17 broadcast. One of them was in 1983 when Madonna Louise Ciccone appeared on the telecast. We know her simply by her first name, "Madonna."

Her first solo album came out that same year. Since then, she has gone on to sell over 300 million records and CDs and is recognized by the Guinness World Records as the best selling female artist of all time. The above photo is a still taken from the broadcast. Michael Nise has donated copies of many of his programs into our Digital Archive Project. This was one of them.
